Invitation to an art opening

The good people at the Cumberland County Historical Society, 33 west High St. in Carlisle Pa. are giving my work a solo exhibition. The opening  is thursday evening June 28th 2012 from 5 to 8pm.
I am excited to show these 25 paintings and they will remain on view through July. Everyone's invited. I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new. Refreshments will be served.
A big thank you to Kim Laidler and Linda Witmer for their efforts to make this a fun and successful show!

Country Road

Busy lately finishing and framing for an upcoming solo exhibit, details of which will be announced soon. This painting is a local view and one I've painted several times. A very common scene here in rural Pennsylvania where I find beauty every day. Thanks for looking in!

A Colorful Past

We drive by this brick farm house building and have seen it deteriorate for years. Speaking with the tenant I learned the property will soon be developed with 300 homes and it's doubtful this building will survive.
The metal chairs from the 50's interested me and the pattern of light and dark seemed strong. Thanks for your visit.

Plein Air Painting

In Pennsylvania where we live, old farm houses like this are common . On this particular day last Spring, the owner was curious and walked out to chat.
Authentic detail is something I look for during the work in progress and so the property owner was added to the painting. His dog remained indoors, a relief, the booming sound of the dogs' bark told me he was not friendly!

Indian Summer

The nor-easter that wrought havoc in the northeast is done and warmth has returned in our corner of the world. Painting the hills is work, riding an old British bike through those hills is great fun.

" Sawtooth Range Getaway"

I stayed at this cabin in Idaho, for one week. Without electricity, lights or running water, it was a different way to live and a nice change of pace. Remote, the trout here are plentiful and I was fishing when this scene caught my eye. Compelling shapes are a spring board for me, often appearing unexpectedly, as was the case with this painting. Thanks for looking in. Dave

John Traynor Workshop

An early June workshop given by the Salmagundi and painter John Traynor in NYC. I was fortunate to be among the 18 students painting with this talented artist in Washington Square and in Central Park. John gave a demo each day as well as individual attention. Thanks John!
