Plein Air Painting

In Pennsylvania where we live, old farm houses like this are common . On this particular day last Spring, the owner was curious and walked out to chat.
Authentic detail is something I look for during the work in progress and so the property owner was added to the painting. His dog remained indoors, a relief, the booming sound of the dogs' bark told me he was not friendly!

Indian Summer

The nor-easter that wrought havoc in the northeast is done and warmth has returned in our corner of the world. Painting the hills is work, riding an old British bike through those hills is great fun.

" Sawtooth Range Getaway"

I stayed at this cabin in Idaho, for one week. Without electricity, lights or running water, it was a different way to live and a nice change of pace. Remote, the trout here are plentiful and I was fishing when this scene caught my eye. Compelling shapes are a spring board for me, often appearing unexpectedly, as was the case with this painting. Thanks for looking in. Dave

John Traynor Workshop

An early June workshop given by the Salmagundi and painter John Traynor in NYC. I was fortunate to be among the 18 students painting with this talented artist in Washington Square and in Central Park. John gave a demo each day as well as individual attention. Thanks John!
